Get ready to celebrate regional pride with ChillOut this weekend

Get ready to celebrate regional pride with ChillOut this weekend
Australia’s largest and longest-running regional pride festival ChillOut returns this weekend, turning spa country into pride country.
There’s no pride festival quite like ChillOut in Daylesford.
Returning for another year, it will take over the Hepburn Shire this weekend with a host of events and entertainment.
“I love ChillOut,” Brend Bressed told QNews, “It’s the unpretentious version of pride, you know?”
“Everyone is welcome and there’s no expectations, you can just enjoy yourself without the gaze of others.”
A chance to chill out in Victorian spa country, the weekend also hosts many parties and activities.
Brenda will be performing at the Big Top Burlesque show, and return for another year at the festival’s iconic Bush Dance.
“I’m excited to perform at the Bush Dance again for my third year,” Brenda said,
“It’s always a hoot and there’s such a huge turnout.”
The Double Dole String Band and The Slip Slide Band will be keeping everyone on their toes for the Bush Dance.
With the Bush Dance once again hosted in Victoria Park.
“With Big Top and the Bush Dance on the same day I will have a jam-packed Saturday,” Brenda said,
“But once I’m done performing I’m excited to head to Thick n Juicy under the big top for a dance.”
The Big Top Tent is being erected this week and will host a series of parties and events over the weekend.

The importance of regional pride
There are a host of free events as part of ChillOut including the Youth Muster.
Hosted by Nate Byrne and Frock Hudson, the Youth Muster will host a panel discussion with a focus on transgender stories.
Guests include former AFL player and coach Danielle Laidley and Victorian LGBTQIA+ Commissioner Joe Ball.
Plus artist Rosie Rae and former country kid, trans activist and sports fan Austin Fabry-Jenkins.
“The creation of the Youth Muster is all about providing an event directly focused on youth, their friends, allies and families,” ChillOut President Matt Clarke told us.
“We know that there are young people who are not out, who are on their journey of finding themselves.”
“So to have the Youth Muster in an outdoor space allows those who are feeling a little unsure, a little unsafe, to view the space and the event from their comfort zone.
“Then decide if they want to join in. It’s important that our young future leaders and advocates can have a positive and enjoyable experience at ChillOut, setting foundations for hopefully a brighter life.”
The Youth Muster will be followed by Drag Storytime hosted by Gabriella Labucci and Frock Hudson.
“Our Story Time events as a part of ChillOut have grown so popular over the years that we now have to host them at Victoria Park.” Frock Hudson said,
“It is always really special to see rainbow families and the regional community come together for the event.”
“It reminds you how important pride events for all ages are, especially regionally.
“Finding ways for everyone to connect to the community has such a huge impact.
“Plus our favourite weatherman Nate Byrnes teased he might be getting up and reading a story as well.”

Some good old country pride
Sunday will see the main street closed off in the morning for the Parade, which will be starting at 11 am.
Followed by an amazing Carnival Day with entertainment from The Rouge Traders, Joanne, The Jawbreakers, Bec Sandridge and more.
“The weather looking at about 10 degrees cooler than last year,” Jacqui from ChillOut told us,
“So grab your tickets and come join us for an amazing Carnival Day.”
“After the summer that we’ve had., I can’t wait for ChillOut.” Nate Byrnes told QNews,
“We’ve gone from craziness and devastation weather-wise to the fun and queerness of Midsumma and Mardi Gras.”
“I can’t wait to actually just sit down and relax and have some good old country pride time.”
Nate has been a part of ChillOut for quite a few years, hosting major events and taking in Daylesford pride each year.
But it’s the community that comes to ChillOut that makes it so special for him.
“The connection with people, being on the street and celebrating their pride, it is totally different.”
“Everyone comes to Daylesford and comes together to have a good time.
“There’s no negativity, it’s just fun and pride and that’s that’s what I’m there for.”
With over forty events taking place over the long weekend there is something for everyone to enjoy.
From dancing in the lavender fields to big-name acts, or tennis, bushwalks and horse riding there’s something for everyone.
There’s limited accommodation available, but being such a short drive from Melbourne you could come for the weekend or the day.
Find out about all the event details and book your tickets here.

ChillOut celebrates all ages under the rainbow with their Youth Muster
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/chillout-celebrates-all-ages-under-the-rainbow-with-youth-muster/
ChillOut celebrates all ages under the rainbow with their Youth Muster
Get ready to celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community in the Hepburn Shire, as ChillOut brings space for all ages to celebrate their pride.
ChillOut is Australia’s largest and longest-running regional pride festival.
Celebrated on the Labour Day long weekend spa country turns into pride country, amplifying regional pride through the Hepburn Shire.
With a host of events, Daylesford is once again transformed into a beacon of pride where everyone has a space to celebrate their authentic selves.
The Youth Muster in the Park is one such event where youth, their allies, friends and families can come together in a safe and inclusive space.
“The Youth Muster is an extremely important feature on the ChillOut events calendar,” ChillOut President Matt Clarke said,
“The committee works hard to ensure that it’s an event that remains there.”
“Generally, regional youth are isolated from many activities and experiences purely because of location.
“Travelling to any event in a capital city is costly.
“Event ticket costs, transport, and accommodation all become quite stressful and are often the final factor in whether they attend.”
“Being a young queer person in regional Victoria adds further layers of complexities.
“As often being out or proud of who they are can come with bullying and violence.”
Discussions, Drag Storytime & more.
This year the free event returns to Victoria Park with live music, drag artists, a rainbow family picnic and more.
Hosted by Nate Byrne and Frock Hudson, a panel discussion will include former AFL player and coach Danielle Laidley.
As well as Victorian Commissioner for LGBTQIA+ Communities Joe Ball and Minus18.
Plus former country kid, trans activist and sports fan Austin Fabry-Jenkins.
Keeping the family-friendly fun going, the Youth Muster is followed by Drag Storytime hosted by Frock Hudson and Gabriella Labucci.
They understand the importance of regional pride.
“Drag story time gives children some entertainment through story and costume,” Labucci said,
“With the amount of bigoted opinions surrounding it, it’s important that we continue to be present,
“And show the youth that there is nothing wrong with being exactly who they are.
“Drag has been around children for years!
“Take Mrs Doubtfire for example, the last scene of the movie sees Mrs Doubtfire hosting a TV show for children!”
Creating affordable and accessible events is important, but comes with a different set of challenges in regional areas.
That’s why the ChillOut committee feel that events such as the Youth Muster are so important.
“ChillOut is so proud of its regional roots and is well known across the queer events calendar, but it is also a majority ticketed event.”
“There are costs to attend events over the weekend.
“So once again, young queer people living regionally are faced with financial challenges.”
Young people deserve affirming & welcoming spaces.
“The creation of the Youth Muster is all about providing an event directly focused on youth, their friends, allies and families,
“By creating a free day during ChillOut that is welcoming, safe and supportive.
“We want to make sure that young people can experience the joy of ChillOut without financial burden.
“We also know that there are young people who are not out, who are on their journey of finding themselves and their tribe.
“So to have the Youth Muster in an outdoor space allows those who are feeling a little unsure, a little unsafe, to view the space and the event from their comfortable zone.
“And then decide if they want to walk through and join in.
“It’s important that our young future leaders and advocates can have a positive and enjoyable experience at ChillOut,
“Setting foundations for hopefully a brighter life.”
With the Parade and Carnival, the following Day, there’s plenty of pride to be celebrated for everyone at ChillOut,
So come join us in Daylesford as we celebrate every age under the rainbow.
Join the ChillOut Festival in Daylesford from the 6th to the 10th of March.
The Youth Muster takes place from 11 am-3 pm, followed by Drag Storytime.
Find out about all the event details and book your tickets here.

Today's mix:
Feed Your Head by Michael Dog 1993 Psybient / Ambient / Tribal Ambient / Dub / Downtempo / New Age / Trance
Well, it's definitely not my cuppa, folks, but if you want some early 90s UK spacey ambient acid chillout psychedelia, the Planet Dog label's Feed Your Head series definitely seems like a good place to look. Coming out of a hippy-ish British space rock tradition, Planet Dog, like a whole lot of other UK labels that launched at around roughly the same time, originally started out as uniquely quirky and eclectic club nights, first under the name of Club Dog in the mid-80s, and then as the more popular Megadog afterwards. And here for 1993, the biggest brain behind the operation, Michael Dog, puts together a partially mixed set that reflects upon his new label's then-current electronically-driven state.
Similar to what the San Francisco underground had been putting down at around the same time—as the Haight-Ashbury Grateful Dead spirit of the 60s collided with the contemporaneous techno-libertarian vision of Silicon Valley—this comp pulls ambient, dub, spiritually new-agey eastern tribal sounds, and trance all together, yielding a linked crop of tunes that feels fit for something like Burning Man, which is a festival that you couldn't pay me to ever attend, unless it was enough for me to quit my day job and explore the history of modern music full-time! 😁
And speaking of San Francisco, it also can't be ignored where this series' title obviously derived itself from: Grace Slick's repeated, finishing line on the late 60s psych rock staple, "White Rabbit," by SF heroes Jefferson Airplane.
youtube
(by the way, isn't it bonkers that the same band that made that song would transition to Jefferson Starship, and then just Starship, and then release that ridiculous early 80s hit of "We Built This City" too?!)

Anyhoo, I don't mind cyberhippy music altogether, but I'm much more partial to the downtempo side than I am to the ambient one, which means that I prefer the music to have some kind of consistent drumbeat that I can nod my head along to. And the only song on this album that really seems to hit me in that regard comes courtesy of the one-and-only Banco de Gaia, an inimitable pro's pro when it comes to that beautifully lush and psychedelic globally-quilted chillout sound. A more well-known Washington, D.C. duo like Thievery Corporation would take a similar approach to newer generations and masterfully enmesh themselves in that massive global chillout scene that would flourish between the late 90s and mid-2000s, but a song like BdG's "Qurna (Haj Ali's Birthday Mix)" is more or less emblematic of where that type of sound comes from, as it lays beautiful blends of psychedelic and string synths alongside nature sounds, hand-drums, and my sought after steady backbeat 😎.
Another thing worth mentioning here is that even though I don't really like this mix very much, kudos still need to go out to Michael Dog for how he went about making it, because rather than just doing normal transitions like almost every DJ does, he went out of his own way to create passages himself to link these songs together to make the whole experience feel more seamless. Not the first time I've heard of this happening—in fact, some in-house person did it for one of those pre-Jock Jams, MTV Party to Go mixes at Tommy Boy a couple years afterwards—but definitely not a commonplace practice by any means.
Also, the liner notes on this release give a shout out to Beyond Records, another UK label that was in a similar vein to Planet Dog at the same time, whose own Ambient Dub series inspired PD to put out this Feed Your Head one. I prefer Ambient Dub as a whole over this first volume of FYH, and you can find a bunch of my favorites from that series in the earliest sections of my own coveted 90s Downtempo playlists—word to the wise, though: the YouTube one has more Ambient Dub stuff than the Spotify one, including an extra super tasty cut from Banco de Gaia himself 😋.
And one other thing I wanna mention here is how a lot of the music on this album seems to have come from offshoots and side projects of already well-established psychedelic and space rock acts. Astralasia, the group that opens this comp up, are from the Magic Mushroom Band, duo System 7 came from Gong, and Eat Static, Nodens Ictus, and The Ullulators were all directly linked to Ozric Tentacles. All part of the same UK scene and all traveling along this sort of newfangled psychedelic electronic club thing together too. Interesting times, to say the least.
So, once again, not the biggest fan of this broad, early 90s psychonautic ambient vibe, but if that's your thing, or you think that it very well might be your thing, this release feels like a pretty wide-ranging and exemplary capsule of it.
Listen to the full mix here.

I've got the bit between my teeth now, smashing out the hour's walk from the train station to put in another shift at the Great Stoodley Litter Mine. It was time to deal with the abandoned festival tent I'd previously found, cleaned off, flattened and stuffed into bin bags. The single continuous fibre glass pole sewn into the tent's fabric had been the problem, preventing me getting it small enough to go in my big Aiguille pack - so today I took in a hacksaw, splitting the pole into short sections then rolling the fabric into a compact bundle. Just the walk back into the valley with chillout tunes on the headphones for the bus home, beating the afternoon rain.
It feels like the end is in sight here now: another two or three 90l rucsac loads bagging up other wankers' shite and I'll have cleared out this patch of woodland.

Lumi's first pride experience
except very little of this is going to end up being about the pride event itself and more the chaos that ensued during the rest of the trip. excluding the uh. issues with that girl i like. im sure you've all seen enough of that.
for anyone curious, the event in question that I attended was ChillOut Festival in Daylesford, Australia. I refrained from posting this while I was there as to not dox myself lmao
Saturday
so, after arriving at the place we were staying after a very very long drive, we go into Daylesford, which was about 15-20 minutes from where we were staying. not after almost getting locked out of the house, which one of my friends had to climb onto the deck of and pray the back door was unlocked so we could get back in. The parts of the event we were interested in going to had already ended by the time we got there, had sold out, or were probably meant for people older than ourselves (we were all 15-16, except for my friend's mum)
we buy food and go back to the house we were staying at. we had a makeshift karaoke night, then watched descendants and k-12, then stayed up until 2am talking about the most random shit, then fell asleep.
Sunday
we attend the pride street parade!! which was super fun. not really sure what to say about it? it was a pride parade. it was really cool though.
after that, we went to carnivale!! I bought some pronoun pins and stickers from an artist who was selling their work there. the music was really good, too. again, not sure what to write? it was just. fun. a lot of fun.
a few people told me they liked my outfit, especially my shoes. i was wearing some very cool shoes tbh
however, I am autistic so I did get quite overwhelmed by the crowds and noise later into the event. we ended up leaving at around 3-4pm. I wouldn't count that as a bad experience though.
we also made new friends there!! whom i did get the phone numbers and snapchats of. however i havent spoken to them since. um. but, one of the other friends i went with has been talking to them quite a lot. im very bad at starting conversations so uhh yeah. this is the friend who i have a crush on and who ended up developing a crush on the guy we met... a not-so-fun part of the trip.. anyway.
overall
I had a lot of fun!! we're planning to go back next year if we can. not sure what else to write. if you live in that area tho definitely attend next year if you can

Hey Everyone!
I'm excited to announce that "Derecho" is now available to download and stream from all our favorite online stores and streaming services. Feel the electronic pulse as “Derecho” sweeps you into its melodic embrace with shimmering synths, cascading arpeggios and driving beats that transcend boundaries.
As the sun sets and neon lights flicker to life, “Derecho” takes flight. Its uplifting melodies soar, carrying you to a place where time stands still - a place where memories are etched in bass drops and hearts synchronize to the rhythm.
Whether you’re lost in the crowd or dancing alone in your room, “Derecho” invites you to surrender, allowing the music to guide your spirit. Close your eyes, feel the surge of energy and let the waves of sound wash over you.
Get ready to ride the sonic vibes. “Derecho” is more than a track; it’s an experience.
See you on the dance floor ...
